Creating a Wonderland for Your Kids

You may wonder why you should bother with redoing your property’s outdoor area, but if you’re someone with kids or kids on the way then you should strongly consider redesigning it.  A well thought out backyard can be a wonderland for young kids.  It can be a place full of enchantment and exciting fun for them where they can create memories that will last a life time and their imagination can blossom.   Too many of our youth spend a majority of their time indoors these days and it is time to reinvigorate a culture that encourages them to go outdoors and use their imagination more.

Now if you’re a parent trying to determine what can be done with your landscape that will work for kids there are a number of answers to that.  Let’s look at modern landscaping today and how that can be used to create a fun and interactive experience for kids.  The first thing you will need to do is find a quality modern landscape architect or designer in your area.  It’s better to look for a local one as they’re usually going to know the local codes and regulations and what plants will be best suited for your area. For example, Seattle has a number of Green codes and regulations that are unique to the area.

Modern landscapes  are often characterized by straight lines and geometric shapes.  This can be easily incorporated into a property to create a beautiful backyard space that lets kids have fun and explore.  A common feature is a patio or place where people can sit at a table and enjoy the outdoors.  Perfect for eating meals at or for kids to sit at and play games when the weather is nice.  A well-developed modern landscape can incorporate fun architecture such as fire pits as well.  Great for bringing the whole family together and letting them do activities such as roast marshmallows or tell stories.

A skilled modern landscape architect can also help you determine what plants are best for growing in your climate and in the space you have available.  You can have them plant the plants for your, but you could also take their suggestions and advice and turn it into a project you can do with your kids.  It gets both of you outdoors and gives you something to do together. Afterwards everyone will be able to enjoy your hard work.  Don’t let your backyard be a place of disdain; make it a place where lifelong memories can be engendered.
